AFFECTED VEHICLES: 1995-1997 CROWN VICTORIA (POLICE, TAXI AND COMMERCIAL FLEET PACKAGES) AND 1995-1997 TOWN CAR (LIVERY PACKAGE) ROUTING CLIP INSTALLATION 1. Turn off air suspension, if equipped, and raise the vehicle. 2. Remove front brake line routing clip. Refer to Figure 1. 3. Remove intermediate brake line routing clip. Refer to Figure 1. 4. Inspect for brake line wear. See Figure 1. 5. If rubber on brake line is worn through to the point that steel is showing, the brake line must be replaced. Go to Page 5 for Brake Line Replacement instructions. Figure 1 NOTE: Position all lines into each routing clip. 6. Secure new routing clips to the frame rail with retaining bolts. See Figures 2 and 3. Tighten retaining bolts to 13-17 Nm (9-13 lb/ft). Figure 2 Figure 3 7. Check clearance between brake lines and the floor pan as shown in Figure 4. Figure 4 8. If necessary, rework brake lines on vehicle to make sure that there is an 8mm to 12mm clearance between the floor pan and the brake lines. Also, make sure that there is no contact between any of the lines. 9. Lower vehicle. 10. Turn air suspension switch On, if equipped. BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT There are no prefabricated brake lines for this procedure. A length of straight brake line must be cut, flared and bent to fix the vehicle. 1. Cut brake line in locations shown in Figure 5. Figure 5 2. Obtain necessary length of straight 6mm brake line and appropriate double flare fittings. NOTE: Install fittings on brake line before flaring ends. 3. Make a double flare to brake line ends as outlined in Section 06-06 of the 1996 Town Car/Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis Service Manual. 4. Using removed brake line section as a guide, bend new brake line to match the contour of the frame rail. 5. Install replacement brake line. Make sure there is an 8-12mm clearance between the brake line and the floor pan and that there is no contact between any of the lines. 6. Install new front and intermediate clips as shown in Figure 3. 7. Bleed brake system. 8. Lower vehicle. 9. Top-off brake reservoir. 10. Turn air suspension switch On, if equipped. 11. Check vehicle for proper brake operation and brake fluid leaks.
